As a superhero goes, Captain America is hard to beat. With his heroic bravery, strength and stamina, he displayed qualities that would be hard not to envy.

The shield he carries has also become his symbol and even though it is a iconic design based on the flag of the United States of America, it has universal appeal with the central star and outer rings in powerful red.

In this work the central focus of the star is enhanced with the spectacular addition of the pāua shell. With its swirling, oily visual affects the pāua shell glistens and changes as your viewing angle is modified.

As you are drawn in to the intricate detail of the pāua centre, you can stand tall and imagine you are the one protected by this shield that represents the hope and dreams for your own life.

Production	Solid wooden frames with composite layers that are hand painted with acrylic and oil-based paints. Pieces of thin shell are added as inlay details, and clear epoxy resin used to provide visual emphasis.
